To the point where they even offer their own wi-fi based cell service called Freewheel. They have hot spots pretty much everywhere. I live in New Jersey and have Optimum as my cable provider. If I train myself to use wifi to the max I can still enjoy the same coverage and voice quality for more than half of what I am currently paying AT&T. If you go over the 2.5 GB your data gets throttled down until the end of the cycle. They use the AT&T network and only charge $35 per month flat fee with 2.5 GB base data plan. My plans are to switch to Cricket with auto pay. What I like the most about AT&T is that it offers great coverage. I currently have AT&T as my cell provider. So there's my 2 cents worth, hope it helped some and others should chime in too. If you don't purchase the sim card at walmart you will have to wait for them to mail it to you so I suggest to go get one. 99 cents to use with your "bring your own phone". If you are going to bring your own phone (even iPhones) and it uses GSM, be sure to head to walmart and purchase the correct size simcard for. New phones can be purchased for cheap at walmart or on their website. Whatever brand/model/phone band(gsm/cdma) will determine what carriers signal the phone will utilize. Was up and running within a few minutes without having to deal with anyone. Bought the phone for $30 at walmart and used the web interface to switch it over.

My girlfriend is not to tech savy and a few months ago I decided to upgrade her Samsung "feature phone" to a LG Smartphone running Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Only had to call them twice on the 3+ years for some simple questions. Their customer service is terrible and out of the country (who isn't) so be prepared if you ever have to call them. Total bill with taxes and fees is a little over $46 a month. We use the autopay feature which gives you a $2.50 discount a month. It is a prepaid phone so you are not stuck to a contract.

If you already have a device you want to use and it is unlocked you are welcome to use it (you can check if it will work on their website using the phones serial number or MEID). They use all of the major carriers(at&t, verizon, t-mobile, sprint) for their devices. Straight Talk is a part of the TracFone family of companies (TracFone, Straight Talk, Net10, PagePlus, Safelink, and on and on.). I never go over the 3GB threshold (or even get close to 2GB) as my device is only using data when wifi is not available, which is not too often and mostly in the car. It is unlimited data, but after 3GB you will be throttled to a point of uselessness(just google straight talk throttling) until the month cycles over. We have been using Straight Talk service for almost 4 years now for $45 a month unlimited. Some might disagree with me on this one but here goes. Out of the cheaper cell carriers, which you think is best? and why? Thanks to those who provide useful input and advice. However, I do use Google Voice Dialer/Hangouts on my cell and computer but for my land line I didn't want to take the risk.Ĭhange Cell phone providers with cheaper plans and get used to using wifi more on my phone for both calling and data.

Many have stopped working ever since Google Voice started moving to Hangouts so I did not want to risk buying an adapter that won't work plus CS is non-existent for most of these devices. Google Voice interface devices are a bit risky. I considered Magic Jack but reviews all point to not so great voice quality and crappy CS. But from $30 per month to $3 per month is a big difference in my land line phone bill. But it hurt a bit to pay almost $200 up-front for device and phone number port fees. The OOMA basic plan is $3.00 per month for "taxes and fees".

So far it seems to work great and also includes the mobile phone app for free calls while connected to wifi.
